Are you looking for the best new stories for kids?

You might be spoilt for choice.

In the UK alone, the children's book market grew by almost 12% last year. This may be due to the fact that parents are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of their child's reading habits.

According to Scholastic, 86% of parents with children between the ages of 6 and 17 believe that it is important for their children to read for fun.

With so many books out there, it's hard to know which ones are the best picks for your child.

Read on to see the six best children's books of 2017.

1. Goldfish Ghost by Lemony Snicket

This charming picture book tells the tale of a ghostly goldfish who leaves his bowl after passing onto the next life.

When the goldfish ghost realizes that no one can see or play with him, he begins to feel lonely and goes on a search for new friends.

His journey takes him through a seaside town, which is brought to life by the wonderfully detailed illustrations of Lisa Brown.

Despite the seemingly drab subject matter, this book is full of positive messages and is a delight to read.

2. Olivia the Spy by Ian Falconer

Olivia is a curious little pig who's had numerous adventures before this one, with names like Olivia Save the Circus and Olivia Forms a Band.
